  • Willy Wonka opens his wonderful chocolate factory to pupils at Ashmount School

    Tue 27 Jun 2017

On Tuesday 27th June, Ashmount School was transformed into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory from the Roald Dahl favourite ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

We opened our doors to pupils and staff from six special schools from across Leicestershire and Derbyshire who were all invited to experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Willy Wonka’s wonderful recipes.

Pupils were given the opportunity to journey through Loompa Land, to experiment with flavours in Wonka’s secret laboratory, to dress up as characters from the story and to take part in chocolate making workshops.

  • Dance and Wiggle Week

    Tue 20 Jun 2017

Thank you to everyone who supported our ‘Dance and Wiggle Week’ during the week beginning Monday 22nd May 2017.

We are delighted to announce that the events raised over £140 for local charity 'The Shepshed Toy Library'.

Toy Library Manager Catherine Tideswell said, “On behalf of Shepshed Toy Library, we would like to extend our gratitude for your fundraising donation from the ‘Dance and Wiggle’ week. I was impressed with the children’s performance of ‘Ashmount’s Got Talent’ on 26th May. You all worked very hard and we do appreciate your efforts. I’m sure the week was also a lot of fun!’

‘Shepshed Toy Library has been operating for over 32 years, and has helped thousands of families as well as those in schools; to benefit from quality affordable toys. Without people like yourselves offering their support we would not be able to continue.’

‘We look forward to seeing you again, and hope that you all have a wonderful summer with a well-deserved break.’

  • Thank a Teacher Day

    Fri 16 Jun 2017

Today, staff, pupils and their families from schools across the country will be celebrating ‘Thank a Teacher Day’.

We’ve all been taught by great teachers. They show a real interest in who we are, listen to our thoughts, inspire us to learn and encourage us to achieve our best, no matter what our goals are. The influence of a good teacher lasts a lifetime.

The aim of the day is to raise the profile of the teaching profession, highlight the positive impact teachers and school leaders have in our society – with pupils, parents and the wider community, and show teachers how much they are valued.

I’m sure that you will agree that Ashmount is a great school – full of lots of great teachers and support, who are dedicated to providing the very highest standards of education and care for our pupils.

Particular congratulations today go to Class Teacher Hollie Smith and Higher Level Teaching Assistant Maria Gallagher who have each received certificates from the Pearson Teacher Awards in recognition of their efforts towards Excellence in Special Needs Education.

  • Scholastic Book Fair

    Wed 14 Jun 2017

The Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving in school soon with hundreds of new children's books to browse and buy (14-19 June).

Parents and visitors are welcome to come in to school to browse and purchase the books anytime during the school day.  If you are unable to come in, you may prefer to send in some money with your child and a member of their class team will help them choose a book.

A big THANK YOU to all who purchased a book (or two).  We raised £344 which we have used to buy lots of lovely new books for school.

  • Red Nose Day Fun

    Tue 06 Jun 2017

Thanks again to everyone who helped us raise funds for this year’s Red Nose Day appeal on Friday 24th March 2017.

We sold all 200 of our red noses to pupils, parents, staff and visitors to the school; our Key Stages 4 and 5 students held cake sales; and pupils enjoyed having the opportunity to wear something red to school for the day.

We have just received a letter and certificate from Sir Lenry Henry confirming that in total we raised over £560.

Lenny Henry writes, ‘Wow! What a Red Nose Day. £73 million raised so far with a big chunk of that total down to fantastic schools like yours fundraising for us. I don’t know where you find the energy but thank goodness you do. Now I don’t really need to tell you that the pupils, parents and staff at your school are amazing. You see them do brilliant things every day. But please hang up the enclosed thank you certificate to show the world how proud we at Comic Relief are of you! The money you and your school raised for Red Nose Day goes to helping people living tough lives in the UK and some of the world’s poorest communities. On their behalf, thank you.’
