Many thanks to all of the students, and staff, parents and carers who were able to attend our fourth annual Scarecrow Festival held on 6th November 2016.
The winner of the competition, as chosen by both our independent judge and the exhibit that received the most votes on the day, was a sensory trail based on the Michael Rosen classic storybook 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', put together by our Key Stage 1 classes.
As part of our celebrations for Harvest Festival, we will be holding our fourth annual Scarecrow Festival from 1.00pm until 3.00pm on Sunday 6th November 2016.
Each class has made their own scarecrow from recycled materials which will be displayed around the hall and foyer.
As in previous years, entries from other schools and groups are welcome, and there will be prizes for the best scarecrows.
Tea and coffee will available, and any donations on the day will be presented to the Loughborough PACE 'Operation Agape' project which provides emergency food parcels to families and individuals in our local community.
Pupils in our Early Years Foundation Stage are enjoying playing in their newly decorated playhouse. The playhouse was painted (and wallpapered inside) by members of staff from Tesco Express Loughborough during our half term break. Jody Branston, Tesco’s Community Champion, said: “We regularly support community projects and we are so happy we could help out such a lovely school.”
Thank you to the Quorn Hunt for raising £650 for Ashmount at their Summer Proms Evening. The event included a jousting contest and music performed by a 30-piece orchestra. Josephine Jewell, Joint Master of the Quorn Hunt, and Ashmount governor Kim Turner called into school for a tour and to present the cheque to Headteacher David Deacon.
Thank you to everyone who sent in food donations as part of this year’s Harvest Festival Celebrations. These were donated to the Bridge Charity in Loughborough which delivers a number of housing related advice, support and assistance services to homeless and vulnerably housed people in the Borough of Charnwood, Leicestershire and Rutland. Jade Pegg from The Bridge, said: ‘On behalf of all the staff, volunteers and clients of the Bridge, may I please extend my sincere thanks to all of the staff, parents and pupils for the fantastic food donation received on Thursday 6th October. We have many people walk through our doors desperate for items that many of us take for granted, and so donations such as these are imperative to make the lives of these people a little better.”
Ashmount pupils have been growing their own sunflowers for the 2016 Schools' Tallest Sunflower Competition.
Our pupils were recently presented with a certificate and awarded third prize for growing six sunflowers with a combined total height of 34 feet and 1 inches.
This was surprisingly close to the combined height of the winning sunflowers grown by pupils at Fairfield Primary School which totaled 39 feet and 7 inches.
As I leave Ashmount school after seven happy years I would like to thank everyone for their support. The list could go on forever but I would like to mention; the governors, parents, staff, Alliance schools and, of course, the children.
I am delighted to be able to leave the leadership of Ashmount in such outstanding hands. Our new Headteacher David Deacon is brilliant and nationally recognised for his work. He will be supported by Deputy Head Abi Steady who was recently recognised by The Leicester Mercury as Inspirational Teacher of the year. New Head of Primary Claire Malpas is also a brilliant teacher and leader. Added to that we have the amazing Helena, Gina and Katie - all Newly Qualified Teachers who we have trained ourselves here in school. Ashmount will go from strength to strength.
The pictures show some images form my lovely farewell lunch with the school governors
