Latest news at Ashmount School......
Primary and Secondary students all took part in the Mini Olympics event last week and had a great time developing skills and competing with their friends. All students were class based and took part in a carousel of sport-based activities for a morning. Thank you to the sports apprentices from Loughborough College and the Limehurst School leaders for setting up the events and running them. Another big thank you to the Ashmount young sports leaders who helped too, they did an amazing job helping the younger students. It was a successful event and feedback from the school council and teachers has been very positive.
Thank you to all the family and friends that attended our school sports days. The sun shone beautifully and the children had a great time. They all took part in mixed ability teams, competing in a carousel of fun activities on the Charnwood school field. The School council reported that the wet and wild and hill skittles activities were the most popular events. After the carousel, the children took part in competitive races. The relay race and wheelchair user’s race were particular highlights. Thanks to the teachers for the all their hard work and for the student volunteers and young leaders who assisted with the event and provided drinks for the parents and friends. A parent stated ‘The Ashmount team make inclusivity look so easy!’ Thank you for all the positive feedback.
It was another great family day out at this year' summer Fayre on Sunday 27th June. Even the sun shone down on everyone.
The crowds enjoyed all the usual stalls, live music, entertainment and Dave & Claire's famous BBQ.
Thanks
Thanks to all the Friends of Amount who put a tremendous amount of work into bringing it all together on the day. Thanks to everyone who turned up. Thanks to our sponsors for the raffle prizes, especially Polypipe and Motorline Direct who sponsored the main cash prizes. Thanks to Sharon for letting us use The Beacon for the day. Thanks to Andy for the photobooth.
As well as being a brilliant day for all the Fayre raised £1,849.64 for our pupils.
Motor Line have now made eight quarterly contributions to the school of £2,406.20, £2,401.20, £2,176.40, £2,600.23, £2,259.60, £2,028, £1,887.09 and £1,982.40. This has been used to extend canopy cover over outside play areas. More recently the money from Motorline has been used to cover the primary slide area with reused latex/rubber compound. Total donated so far = £17,741.92
We are delighted that ready for the summer we have installed a brand new surface around the slide and steps area in the Primary Playground. Up to now we had problems with mud in this area. After looking at a number of solutions we found a company who have supplied the perfect surface to solve the problems over the Easter break - see the photos. This uses old shredded tyres mixed in with resin then dyed. It manages to recycle old tyres and provides a brilliant strong, safe surface for our children to play on.
We would like to say a big thank you to Motorline Direct of Shepshed who have paid for the £2,700 this work cost through their continuing and generous sponsorship. Our partnership with them has already provided us with additional canopy cover for play areas and they continue to help the school.
We are very proud of our pupil Summer Wesson of Class 2 who recently qualified in the National Voice Box competition. By telling her jokes at 'You're having a laugh' week in school Summer was entered with RCSLT and won a trip to the houses of Parliament to tell her joke.

Well done Summer from all at Ashmount School.
