Loughborough Learning Alliance Spring Conference
On Thursday 25th February Loughborough Learning Alliance, led by Ashmount School, held its annual Spring conference at 3M on Morley Street. As a member of the Alliance 3M kindly hosted the event and catered for the 50 participants. Head Teachers and Deputy heads from Loughborough Primary and Secondary schools were joined by delegates from schools in Wigston, Belton, Long Whatton, Kegworth and Shepshed. The delegates listened to talks by Jane Ashman H.M.I. who gave the current picture on Ofsted’s inspection regime and Humphrey Walters internally renowned inspirational speaker. Ashmount Head Teacher Dave Thomas said;
“It was great to hear the Ofsted perspective first hand and be able to ask Jane questions about what Ofsted are finding in our schools The talk by Humphrey Walters related to his work with the England rugby team and other inspirational consultation he has led. We were keen to get speakers of such high quality to inspire our educational leaders in Loughborough. We were delighted that the Learning Alliance is growing so rapidly and that we could attract delegates from the whole county.”
Following the latest meeting of The Friends of Ashmount we have set the date for our summer Fayre as Sunday 26th June. As usual it will be in the grounds of The Beacon Pub on Beacon Road. Parents and carers are encouraged to help out with stalls and general jobs on the day.
We are hoping for a record number of people to attend.
If you can offer any help - either running your own stall or helping out on one of the existing ones please contact the school and leave me a message as soon as possible.
Many thanks
Dave

Recently we held a gymnastics festival at school. Here is the message P.E. and Sports leader Claire Malpas sent following the event:
The Gymnastics festival we hosted was fab! Lots of brilliant gymnastics work, beautiful behaviour from all the children and the professional Gymnastics judges were very impressed by the standard.
Ashmount are through to the final with the winning team of children from Newcroft Primary school so we will be attending that too.
Well done to all who took part - a few photos from the event are featured below.
Through our Teaching School status Ashmount offers School Direct initial teacher training with Derby University.. This is for graduates wishing to become primary teachers. We also work closely with Limehurst school for secondary training
If you, or someone you know, is interested in training to become a teacher click on the Teaching School tab of this website and get in touch with us for more details.
We are now recruiting for 2016/17.
Ashmount School would like to wish all of our students, parents, carers and supporters a Happy 2016. We hope that you had a peaceful Christmas. We look forward to welcoming back the children and young people on Wednesday 6th January.
You will shortly receive our latest fund raising idea - small change collection boxes. There will be a letter with the boxes explaining how we hope to use them to even further boost the Ashmount Appeal funds. We would be interested to hear your thoughts on this latest fund raising idea.
Very best regards
Dave Thomas

As part of our 'You're having a laugh ' week in October we made up Christmas Cracker jokes. we also had a competition to design the best Christmas Cracker wrapper. This was won by Phillip Smith of class 8. Local company Simply Crackers have been very generous and made us 250 special Ashmount crackers which the children enjoyed at their Christmas dinner.
Many thanks to Geine and all at Simply Crackers.
Once again we would like to thank Motorline Direct of Shepshed for their very generous sponsorship. The company has now presented us with our sixth quarterly cheque for £2,028.80 making £13,872.43 which they have so far donated to the school. This has now entirely paid for the extension to the outdoor canopies on our primary side of the school. Future donations will go toward other Ashmount appeal projects to benefit the children at school.
Many thanks to Ash, Geni and all the staff.
The pupils of Ashmount have taken part in a number of sports festivals as part of the Sainsbury’s school games partnership.
The PMLD festival was a great success. 4 of our key stage 2 children attended and took part in a number of sensory activities and games. The children had lots of fun working with children from different schools.
Key stages 3 and 4 took part in the Sports hall athletics level 2 competitions. The children competed against a number of special schools in the city and Leicestershire. All the children performed well and took part in a number of athletics activities including speed bounce, javelin, hurdles, relays, throwing beanbags at targets and long jump. 3 of our KS4 pupils were extremely successful and were chosen to take part in the ‘North Charnwood ALL STARS team’ in the level 3 competition what a triumph for Ashmount.
