Latest news at Ashmount School......
The school would like to thank Motorline Direct of Shepshed for yet another generous donation to The Ashmount Appeal. For each car sold an amount is donated to The Appeal. On Thursday 11th June we went to the salerooms and received a cheque for £2,600.23. The photo shows four of our students receiving the cheque from two of the Motorline Direct salesmen.
What these quarterly payments have meant for us is that we have been able to extend the external canopies to the primary side of the building. This work has been undertaken to the same high quality as the original installations by Broxap Ltd. This means that our primary aged children can learn and play directly outside their classrooms in all weathers.
Des O'Connell, husband of Ashmount teacher Sandra, will be riding from Whithaven to Newcastle on Thursday 11th June with The Round Table. All proceeds to The Ashmount Appeal. You can sponsor via his Just Giving page at

Good luck Des - we are right with you!!!
This year Ashmount students have entered in 4 of the 3M innovation challenge competitions. We have two entries in the Super Food Challenge from class 8 and Class 4. We have also entered the Eco Tech Challenge and the Make it Move Challenges. In the past we have done well and won prizes in this exciting 3M competition. Judging will take place over the next week and there will be a prize awards evening (which we hope to be at!) on May 22nd

Good luck to all of our entrants.
On 23rd March our fantastic multi-sensory room was officially opened by members of the Wooden Spoon charity who helped to raise the £14,5000 to pay for it. The Wooden Spoon is a rugby based charity who fund raise for similar causes.
The room was opened by the current Leicester Tigers team captain Ed Slater, who then enjoyed joining children for an interactive session in the room where he learnt how the various effects enhance learning. Ed was joined by another Tigers legend Bleddyyn Jones (now with BBC Radio Leicester) and members of the Wooden Spoon committee. An unexpected special guest was ex Tigers and England captain and Tigers Chief Executive Peter Wheeler. As a member of The wooden Spoon Society Peter joined us for a tour of the school and saw how our new building has helped achieve our consistently outstanding results for our students.
We would like to thank The Wooden Spoon Society for their sponsorship of the multisensory room and for their continuing support for the school.
We had a great World Book Day on March 5th with all students and staff dressing up as characters from books, or stories. We worked on literacy themed topics then finished the day with a whole school parade and judging of costumes in the hall. Thanks to all mums and dads who helped with the fantastic costumes. A great fun, reading and learning day for all!
A few pictures give you some idea:
On Friday 30th January we celebrated a year in the new school on Thorpe Hill. We were delighted to welcome back Matt Hampson and all the money raised on the day went toward his Get Busy Living appeal. Students and staff dressed up and in a special afternoon assembly we had examples of what each class had done to raise money for Get Busy Living ranging from bike rides to car washes to putting Dave and David in baked beans!
A great day to celebrate a great first year - thanks to everyone who took part. See some of the pictures below.
Congratulation to members of the Ashmount staff team who recently joined with colleagues from Elizabeth Woodville Primary School, Groby, to take part in the Leicestershire and Rutland Sport Volleyball Tournament, held at Rushey Mead School, Leicester. The team won four out of their five games to place them second in their heat and third in the competition overall.
