Two Loughborough residents have raised £607 for The Ashmount Appeal by holding a soul and Tamla Motown disco at Greenfields social club at the end of December.

Richard McNamee and Paul Middleton presented the cheque for the money raised to Dave on Monday 20th Janaury. They plan to hold further similar events in the coming year and continue to raise money for The Appeal.

    Wed 10 Dec 2014 Dave

    On 10th December Ofsted published its annual reports on education in Britain. In the East Midlands regional report Ashmount are highlighted as a case study of effective use of pupil premium to improve attainment for pupils following winning the 2014 Pupil Premium Award. The case study says;

"...Most importantly, the school rigorously tracks each child's progress from the outset, so that if the intervention is not working it can be adapted early to secure success".

Congratulations all the staff involved in this successful intervention work and particularly deputy head teacher David Deacon.

  • Thanks to Motorline

    Thu 04 Dec 2014 Dave

Motorline Direct of Shepshed have made their second donation to The Ashmount Appeal. By making a contribution of £5 for all cars sold and by asking customers for contributions of between £1 and £5 the company is raising money for us. In the first quarter of this scheme we were given a cheque for £2,406.20 and in the first week of December we received a second cheque for £2,401.20.

This money is presently being used to extend the external canopies over the play areas and the builders have been in school in early December to complete this work.

Details of Motorlines sponsorship can be seen on their website at www.motorlinedirect.co.uk/charities

Many thanks from all at Ashmount to Motorline Direct for making our lovely new school even better!

  • Education Secretary visits Ashmount

    Fri 14 Nov 2014 Dave

On Thursday 13th November local M.P. and Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan visited Ashmount. We have had a long and positive relationship with Nicky as our local M.P. and she has always been keen to support all aspects of the school and our fund raising toward The Ashmount Appeal. This was Nicky's first visit to the new building and site. Dave took her on a tour of the school where she met students and staff as well as hearing about all the fantastic facilities we now have. Nicky is well aware of our recent success, Ofsted second outstanding judgement and various awards. She is also keen to support us in our new role of National Teaching School leading The Loughborough Learning Alliance

Immediately following the visit Nicky tweeted:

"Great to see the wonderful new facilities and inspirational teaching at Ashmount with Head Dave Thomas."

  • The Santa Fun Run

    Wed 01 Oct 2014 Dave

OK so it's only October and Christmas seems a long way off! HOWEVER we now have details of this year's Santa Fun Run. This is organised each year by Loughborough Rotary Club and this time Ashmount Appeal are one of the main recipients of the money raised.

What we are asking is for as many students, parents, families, friends, dogs (special category for Dog Parade!) and anyone else to run on behalf of Team Ashmount.

We would love to have the biggest single team entry - not only would this raise more funds but would be a great way of saying thanks to the organisers for choosing us.

The event is on Sunday 7th December starting at The Market Place in Town.

Don't worry if you can't run - you can walk the 5 km route - I do!

We will shortly be sending out sponsor forms and full details . In the meantime you can read all about it on the S.F.R.  website at www.santa-fun-run.co.uk

    Ho Ho Ho!

  • NCS Volunteers raise cash for Ashmount

Tue 30 Sep 2014 Dave Thomas

Over the summer groups of teenagers from The National Citizen Service have given up four weeks of their holidays to raise cash for The Ashmount Appeal. The total raised was close to £4,000 with each of the groups raising about £1,000 each.

The school is very grateful to N.C.S. and organisers Leicestershire Education Business Partnership.

Head and Deputy Dave Thomas and David Deacon have both been to 'graduation ceremonies' at The Showcase Cinema in Leicester where the groups have been presented with certificates and thanks for all the work they have done.

This has been a fantastic community link for the school and shows the determination and inspiration of young people to work for worthy causes.

  • Yet another award!

    Mon 07 Jul 2014 Dave
To add to the National Pupil Premium Award and the Leicester Mercury School and Headteacher of the year awards we have now won the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) building excellence award 2014 for the region. This means that we go forward to the National Awards in November where we are against the other regional winners.
Many thanks to all the builders, architects and contractors involved in our new school build.

  • Thanks to Polypipe

    Mon 30 Jun 2014 Dave
Local Company Polypipe have again supported the school by contributing to The Ashmount Appeal. On July 2nd Polypipe Business Development Coordinator, and parent of an Ashmount pupil, Eddie Jinks presented the school with a cheque for £100. As well as this Polypipe employees bought masses of raffle tickets and supported the Summer Fayre.
This is another good link with a  local company for the school. We value these very highly as they show the strength of community support for the work we do.
Thanks from all at Ashmount to Polypipe.
See the gallery for a photo of the presentation.
