On Thursday 26th June we went to The Leicester Mercury School Awards. We had been nominated in two of the categories for all schools in The City and The County. We were delighted to win both School of The Year and Head Teacher of The Year Awards. Thanks to everyone who has supported the school and especially to our brilliant staff and fantastic parents and governors. This is just recognition of effort above and beyond the call of duty day in and day out.

On Thursday 25th June Dave, deputy David Deacon and Chair of Governors Jean Lewis attended the National Pupil Premium Awards ceremony in London. We had qualified from the regional and national entrants to reach the last three places. On the day we beat two London special schools to become National Pupil Premium Award winners for special education 2014. We were presented with a trophy and certificate by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. The school will be given £10,000 in recognition of our work to provide the very best provision for children in receipt of The Pupil Premium.
This is a significant National achievement and reflects all the hard work we put in to make sure that all of our children achieve their very best. A great reward for a fantastic staff team

On Friday 28th February Dave and school nurse Faye Fuller attended the HeartSafe launch event at Leicester Tigers stadium on Welford Road. This was to promote CPR and heart attack recovery in the County. Dr Doug Skehan spoke to a packed audience and each school present was given a £2,000 defibrillator to keep in school. The statistics on heart attack recovery following correct CPR and use of a defibrillator prove the value of such training. Later training for all staff will follow.

On Thursday 6th February we enjoyed the official opening for our new school. The school was opened by ex-England and Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson and Rosita Page, the chair of Leicestershire County Council.
As guests arrived at the school they were greeted by the fantastic singing of LSU Sing! performing in the entrance foyer. As old friends of the school we were pleased that the student choir could join us on the day and add to the celebratory atmosphere.
After refreshments in the conference room guest assembled for speeches in the school hall followed by cutting of the ribbon and presentation of the brass plaque which is now on display in the foyer.
Following this groups of guests were shown around the school by staff and governors. While this happened the students were entertained in the hall by M & M theatre productions.
Events were filmed by the BBC and an excellent article appeared on Central News . Local press and radio also covered the event. Feedback from the opening was very positive with one visitor saying, “The new school is just unbelievable, there really is no comparison with the old buildings on Beacon Road. Ashmount is a terrific School just imagine what can be achieved now”
Meanwhile we await the outcome of our application to be a National Teaching School from the National College for teaching and leadership. We expect to hear in March.
